i dont know alot about guns so i thought i would ask some of you guys what you think is better and why?

i want a sub compact 1911. i like the pro line of kimbers but heard others say the sigs are better. i have never shot a 1911. i carry a glock36 now so the added weight scares me. any thoughts?

Welcome to Gun Forums.

1911 Pistols come in 3 basic sizes; Big Bear, Momma Bear, and Baby Bear. Or more correctly: Government, (5" barrel) Commander (4" barrel), and Officer (3-1/2" barrel).

The Government size has been around for 100 years; the Commander 60, and the Officer model is relatively new; less then 20 years.

From what I've read and seen, the smaller the 1911, the more prone to failure; not that the Officer sized Colt New Agent, etc. are bad guns they are more sensitive to recoil, ammo choices, and reliability. Figure that that slide and recoil spring on the shorty take the same amount of recoil the full sized does. Although the gun makers have worked the bugs out, they are still more prone to issues in my opinion.

Personally I prefer the Commander sized gun; slightly smaller then the full-sized (more concealable) but as reliable as a full-sized.

And the very first "Commander" size was made by Colt.

So, since Colt has the most experience by far making them, if I were in the market for a 1911, I'd get a Colt.

BTW, just my opinion, but for a carry gun, I think you're takinbg a giant step backwards by going from a Glock to a 1911.

thanks for the welcome guys, and i will still carry my glock most of the time. i just like how the 1911s look. i have been on youtube alot looking at what people are saying and most of them seem to like sigs 1911 better(less problems)for diffrent reasons. but i like how the kimbers look better, but dont want to have a gun fail when i need it. what do you guys think about the sig 1911s?
