ok so i need advice im in the United States Marine Corps. im stationed out NC and im living in a neighborhood that i hear gun shots alot and im bout to have a kid so im shopping for a gun i was at the store today and i fell in love lol but im not sure what i want cuz i dont know the difference

both the springfield armory 45. and the FN FNP-357 Sig.....where both pretty much the same price....

all i know is that both guns fire different caliber rounds and from what i can visually see the springfield has the triple trigger and the other safety on the back of the grip....ive heard people say both are great guns but i really dont like paying 500 bucks for something without knowing everything

Welcome to the forums; stick with the 100 year old design, the 1911. Its personal choice but (and I have a gun chambered in .357 Sig) the .357 Sig in my opinion is a designer round. The FNP is a good pistol; based along the design of a Sig but the 1911 is so much a better design; and you can have so much done to it to improve accuracy and performance.

Talk to some of the older 1SGT and Master Gunnery SGTs or Gunners; ask them their opinions about the 1911...If you came and asked this retired CWO4 I'd say 1911...

Can't go wrong with the .45 aspect of the two...my vote is the springfield armory 45.

PS. Gun shows are a great place to learn, see variety, and talk with various people. Bring money because you might be surprised some people who go also want to sell their guns too!

Just my personal opinion, the 1911 is one of the finest target pistols ever made, but for a carry gun, I would take almost anything over a 1911, or any other single action for that matter..

I haven't any experience with either of the models you are interested but do have experience with both calibers.

The 357 SIG is a kick but round but you will find that it is more expensive to shoot than the 45 ACP. I have the 357 SIG in a Glock 32C model pistol and like it a lot but it is my 45 ACP pistols that get the range time. I have a Glock 21, SIG 1911, Colt Commander, and a Citadel 1911 Compact chambered for 45 ACP.

I have heard good things about both the FNP and the Springfield XD/XDm line of pistols. I have been eyeing the FN line up for a while now. As for the Springfield XD/XDm line I am not so interested. I like Glocks a lot and to me the Springfield line up is a Glock with a lot of unnecessary bells and whistles.

Hope you find what fits you and practice all you can with it.

OH Locutus here we go - different opinions again!

I think the 1911 gun - a guality 1911 is an excellent all around gun for target shooting, concealed carry, and home defense. Near at hand is one of my Commander sized 1911s - a Kimber Tactical Pro II loaded with jacketed hollowpoint ammo. Government, Commander, or Compact, one of them usually is in a holster with me always.

Here's a COLT family picture:

Combat Elite .45 (government sized)
Combat Commander .45 (commander sized)
New Agent .45 (compact size

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree!

When I'm not carrying a SIG P239, I'm usually carrying a SIG P226.
