I haven't been on for a while, so I need to vent.

In the recent oral arguments of McDonald v. Chicago, they used for the argument the 14th amendments due process clause.

WHAT THE HELL IS THE 1ST, 4TH, and 5TH???

They are all blanket individual rights!! Everyone raises hell when someone's 1st amendment rights are violated.

They raise hell when the police enter a place without probible cause.

You can't be forced to testify against yourself.

WHY IS THE 2ND AMENDMENT ANY DANM DIFFERENT????

These justices did a CYA on the Heller case so they could iron out everything on a case by case basis. What the hell is that?

We have laws on legal age of purchase, mental capacity for purchase, and for a CCW you need to go to a class.

I still believe if you can own a gun, you should be able to carry a gun anywhere you go.

Sorry about the rant. I just wish these stupid lawyers and judges would just be able to read English

"The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall NOT be infringed."

Isn't that why the NRA excists?? There are 1st amendment associations that went to the wall for that one journalist for not giving up her source. When is the NRA going to go for the big one like that??

Until the NRA gets off their duffs and goes for the big one.....

Thanks all

Patience...June is a long way off; and their will be 1,000,000 +1 comments about McDonald v. Chicago; and they will all be pure speculation.

So you're mad at the NRA because they aren't "PURE" enough to suit your tastes???

Well, I oppose abortion. Yet the USA allows it. Should I be "mad" at America?? Should I say "to hell with the USA until they outlaw abortion?????

Think about it, my friend! The NRA is the only reason you can still have a gun legally in this country. But if you occassionally disagree with their tactics while they're fighting for you and your rights, then to hell with them????

That doesn't make any sense.

And these "other" totally ineffective little splinter "pro-gun" groups do nothing but drain precious resources and people away from the NRA making it even tougher for them.

Think about this. Every time you hear the anti-gun people on radiop or TV, who are they attacking??? They're attacking the NRA! Because it's effective, and they're afraid of it! They're not even bothering to attack the totally ineffective little "purist" splinter groups.

As Bigdaddy said, have a little patience. The NRA has the people, the knowledge, and the experience to eventually win this fight. But they're not going to win the whole damn war, that 200 years of apathy among "we the people" allowed by our inaction in one court case.

These things take time, money, expertise and patience. The NRA has all four.

No I'm not mad at the NRA. I'm mad at the way these justices and congress people in both the federal and state houses can't seem to read english and wittle away at our rights. But why did they have to go through the 14th amendment when the 2nd should stand on its own?

I just think they should be going about it a different way.

Popularity and tactics go hand in hand. Lawyers and courts will argue in any direction that captures the most popularity.

Such is the life in US courts. The nice thing is YOU have as much chance to rebut any decision they make if you have the will to do so.

Unfortunately this usually requires a life long commitment.

P.S. I too often find myself frustrated with how SLOW things seem to progress.

Therefore I will continue to help by funding the NRA to do just that. Even though I do not always agree with their tactics. They are the largest and strongest (which makes them the best) chance we have to maintain our gun rights.

God willing, they will prevail until the next generation takes over.

The Egyptian Empire lasted for 2,400 years.
The Roman Empire - 1,300 years
China's Zhou Dynasty - 1,000 years
The Ottoman Empire - 600 years.

The United States is just over 200.
History is a very slow process and the human lifespan is very short.
As a result man is a very impatient animal.

Change, for the good, or for the bad, is going to take time.
We just have to be patient and never give up on our goals.

We need organizations like the NRA.
WHY?
Because the organization will probably last longer then we as individuals.

Personally I find it nice to know that the NRA will still be fighting for the rights of American Shooters long after I am gone.

this is kind of in left field in regards to this thread, but honestly, I really don't think it has a whole lot to do with the ignorance, or inability to understand the Bill of Rights of the lawyers and law makers. things happen for a reason, and in the arena of the US Government, I believe that the influence on congress of high-dollar business interests and elites trump your personal rights. (I'm not saying that I agree with this, I'm just stating that this is how I think the government really operates behind closed doors)

is it any surprise that congress has just passed a bill that gives corporate entities the right to donate as much as they want to a politician's campaign?

the fact that an organization can "buy" a politician is already what's destroying this country, and now the flood gates have been busted wide open. wake up guys, this thing goes way deeper than just "ignoring your rights".

over the last several decades, the Bill of Rights has been systematically and strategically broken down incrementally. you don't think that this is a coincidence, do you? the fascists already proved in WWII that total control can not be accomplished by force alone.

now another strategy is being implemented.

ever hear the old saying... if you drop a frog into a pot of boiling water, the frog will jump out immediately because of the intense heat of the water... but if you drop a frog into a pot of room-temperature water and SLOWLY increase the heat, the frog will be cooked before it feels any pain and has time to react.

is it any surprise that congress has just passed a bill that gives corporate entities the right to donate as much as they want to a politician's campaign?

it's not socialism, and it certainly isn't democracy, it's fascism... and it's really pretty obvious if you're actually paying attention to the right things, and not getting distracted by other meaningless things.

NOLA,

Your points are well taken.

The politicians, judges, lawyers, etc have no trouble understanding the constitution.

It's written in plain, simple English that any fourth grader can easily undertstand. THEY JUST DON'T AGREE WITH IT, BECAUSE IT DOESN'T ALLOW THEM TO RULE OVER US THE WAY THEY'D LIKE TO.

So they try to parse every word and punctuation mark in an attempt to twist, torture and torment the meaning so that they can accomplish their goals without going through an amendment process that they'd most certainly lose.

Much the same reason why so many have a problem with religion as well. Man will ALWAYS distort and twist things for their own selfish desires.

It’s not limited to just politics and religion. It is in everything you can possibly conceive… everything.

The trick is to keep your whit’s about you, and meet them head on at their own game. Sadly it is a loosing battle though. As much as I would like to think otherwise. The numbers are against us. Time will eventually erode all reason in society.

So lets all make it as painfully hard for them at every turn with every action. Be a light to your friends and family. Never miss an opportunity to share good reason with those around you.

I honestly believe the American people really do have pretty good B.S. filters.

The problem is simply that we're so damned lazy, intellectually, that we need for something to make us "mad as hell" to get off of our collective duffs and use them!
