I have a big gun collection that was left to me by a family member, WW2, Western, 1890 to 1970's. Some look unfireable and some are new looking, I'm not into the collection side of it I just like to hunt with a couple. Anyone have Ideas on how I could sell all of these legally. I am in California, I have photos, I have about 60+ pistols and rifles some shot guns.... Let me know if there are anyone persons or company that you could refer me to.

If I posted photos some of this collection could I get input about these guns on this website, or do most people need to have all the specs on them? Can you Idenify by just looking at a photo?

There are a number of differant ways to liquidate a collection.

You could sell them directly to a local gun dealer, or if they are willing to do it, have them sell them for you on commission.

There are also a number of Auction Houses/Companies that specialize in the selling of firearms.
You can do an internet search for their names and contact information.

If you want to sell them yourself you can advertize them on our "For Sales" forums.
Or you could use one of the on-line auctions like GUNBROKER.COM and AUCTIONARMS.COM.
The only 'problem' with doing it in this way is that you need to have any guns you sell shipped through an established FFL.
However the cost of having an FFL ship them for you is not that expensive, and most sellers add it to the shipping costs that the buyer must pay.

As for identifying the guns and providing information all I can say is go ahead and post pictures.
Some guns may be instantly and easily identified by a single picture.
Others may need additional pictures or other information to help identify them.

Many of our forum members have had experience buying and selling firearms both on and offline.
So if you have any specific questions don't hesitate to ask.
Chances are someone here will be able to help you.

Good Luck, and welcome to the forum.

Cabelas buys gun collections but you would most likely only get %80 value. You would get more selling collection by yourself if you do not mind putting in the time.

who me and leprachuan45 offer very good advise.

But they do bring up one point I forgot to mention.
Selling them to a dealer would be the easiest way to get rid of them.
BUT, a dealer is in business and has to make a profit on all transactions or he will go out of business very quickly.
So if he does offer to buy your guns from you the price he will give you will be only about 40-60% of their actual value.

Personally if it were me I would either take them to a Firearms Auction House or try to sell them myself online.

The Auction house would take a little bit of the sale as their commission (it wouldn't be very much however).
Also since the Auction would probably be a one day affair you would be able to get rid of them quickly with very little effort on your part.
Unfortunatly at an auction you have little control of the prices you will get.

Online you have a greater say in how much you will get but there is no quarantee that you will find a buyer for all of your guns and it may take several days/weeks/months.
If that's case if you don't find a buyer for all your guns you may, or may not, end up having to sell a few to a dealer after all.
