Will be moving around next month to Richmond, VA from Martinsville, VA. And I am glad to be back to civilization again since I am a city dude. Despite that, my outspoken pro-gun views on the 2nd Amendment will never change. I am still on everyone's side and I will continue to be on these gunforums. It's just that I prefer the city since there are more places to see and more things to do. Again, it's a matter of where you grew up and I am pretty much streetwise. Originally, I grew up in Norfolk, VA. Richmond, is not much different, only more metropolitan.

Sure wish there were more folks that loved the cities so that the little hick towns out west could remain little hick towns!

I'm definitely a city guy, but every day, week, month that goes by, I grow a greater and greater appreciation for rural areas.
the sound of light rain and burning leaves is the same.

From my experience being assigned to rural areas, there are some good points:
-appreciation for the second amendment since most do hunt or keep a gun for protection of family or livestock-
-people are more polite and still use religion to guide their family and everyday lives
-everyone knows everybody and neighbors treat one another like family
-fresh air
-beautiful mountains and scenic landscape

However, what really turns me off are some youths there acting like they are gangstas/thugs from the city. That is one of the reasons I would rather move back to the cities. Tired of the fake wannabees in the small towns. And, I find it amusing when some of them say that the towns they live in are rough. I agree that crime does take place anywhere but I tell 'em that I have been to a lot of cities, including NY/Chicago/etc., and they have not seen nothing yet. All the stuff and crimes they hear that take place in their rural towns only happens once in a blue moon and they make a big deal out of it. In most cities, including Hampton Roads, there is always a murder or crime happening every week. Another thing about the rural small towns too what turns me off is how people look at me as strange the way I dress and am tired of sticking out like a sore thumb. No way am I looking like some kind of cowboy or looking like a hunter wearing a field jacket, which is a style among redneck youth. No thanks, I'd rather wear leather windbreakers, leather coats (like the one Rocky used to wear in the first Rocky), and leather trenchcoat that makes me look normal in a city. To reiterate, I cannot wait to move to Richmond and get the heck out of the Martinsville/Danville area.

I was born in southeast Texas, grew up on a Texas ranch bordering the Davy Crockett National Forest, and have been hunting and using firearms since I was a little kid (6 or 7 years old). I've traveled all over the North American continent, have lived in several U.S. states, am currently living in the mountains of western North Carolina, and I've been writing on firearms and gunowner rights and exposing the anti-gun agenda for about 26 years now.

Wow, you sure know how to sell the big city life. lol

I live smack dab in the middle. One hour either direction and I can be lost in the hills, or down town amongst everything modern man has to offer. Still I would love to be in a place where I can not see any neighbors from my windows.

Not that I’m apposed to neighbors, not at all. I just like seclusion. I hate bothering anyone with the loud noises that can sometimes come from my shop. My job has me working any given shift from time to time. Sometimes I find the need to do a little grinding, or drilling at 2 am.

Just to reiterate, my childhood spent in the US, which I immigrated to in 1980, was in Norfolk, Virginia. I lived there until I got assigned to Martinsville. Went around the downtown Norfolk area yesterday and it felt great being in my old stomping ground.

I am in the middle of nowhere in south Alabama. I can go out in the front yard and pee without offending anyone! I can go out in my front yard and take a dump and only offend my wife! LOL
Love the isolation!

Hi everyone. This is just my second day in Richmond and I am already loving it. No more long 45 min. drives from my residence to my workplace like I did in Danville and this is my kind of place.
